I DO: Memorable Wedding Dresses

So, January flew by! Does anyone else feel like that? Oh, well, at least it is almost February, a.k.a. my favorite month! People who know me will roll their eyes because it is the month of my birthday, which I am, ahem, a tad obsessed with, but that’s not the only reason! February is a month of romance, when pink and red take over almost every candy aisle, and old movies are particularly poignant. To get ready for this month of love, I thought it would be nice to do a post about weddings. And not just any weddings – vintage celebrity weddings! Back when Hollywood was the ultimate dramatic affair, weddings were sumptuous feasts of style. So, here are my favorite brides and dresses of all time…Enjoy!

Grace Kelly (1956)

Ever the most elegant and sophisticated of Hollywood royalty, Grace Kelly became real royalty when she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Her dress was equal parts dramatic and simple with an intricate design and train, but the same soft femininity that Grace Kelly will always be known for.

Elizabeth Taylor (1964)

The queen of weddings, Taylor had a lot of practice before she got to her 5th (and 6th) husband, Richard Burton. My personal favorite bridal look of hers was their first wedding, showing off the hippie side of Elizabeth Taylor. Although their relationship was tempestuous, this image shows nothing but carefree and beautiful happiness.

Audrey Hepburn (1969)

The perfect example of second wedding chic! The only images of this dress are black and white, but for her second marriage, to Andrea Dotti, Hepburn chose a pale pink mini shift with a mod hood and shape. With her slim physique and gamine stature, only Audrey could have pulled this off!

Yoko Ono (1969)

A lot of wedding dresses tend to look alike, which is why it’s refreshing when a celebrity dresses according to their own style, rather than what is typical. For her 1969 wedding to John Lennon, Yoko Ono wore a tiered mini dress and huge white hat. The look is perfectly representative of the funky ‘60s and the even funkier bride.

Bianca Jagger (1971)

To marry Mick Jagger, one simply can’t be a wallflower, and Bianca Jagger proved her innate stylishness with her non-traditional wedding attire. Eschewing a dress in favor of a white YSL smoking jacket with nothing underneath is both incredibly amazing and iconic for it showed just how effortlessly cool models and rock stars are.

Farrah Fawcett (1973)

As if she needed to be any more iconic of the Seventies, Farrah Fawcett went for a bold bohemian look for her wedding to Lee Majors. The combination of wide-brimmed hat and long-sleeved maxi dress oozes ‘70s cool and further confirms Fawcett as the envy of all other women.
